Portrait of Ema Persson

I have always been driven by the urge to create and to tell stories.

It started when I was six years old and was allowed to borrow a family friend’s video camera. I remember being completely fascinated by the idea that something I captured through a lens could later appear on a television screen - including myself! That moment sparked something that has stayed with me ever since — a love for creating behind the camera, but also for stepping in front of it to tell a story.

Today, I see myself as a multidisciplinary artist and entrepreneur.

Photography and filmmaking have been at the heart of my professional life since I founded PHOTEMA in 2012, with weddings becoming a large part of my work. But my curiosity has never allowed me to stay within just one creative field.

I paint in acrylics, often combining abstract expression with detailed, recognizable elements from real life. I write music, sing, play the piano, and I love to dance! When I am on the dance floor, sitting at the piano, or immersed in a visual project — whether painting, editing or building websites — time and space seem to disappear. That is when I feel happiest and most alive, completely absorbed in the creative flow.

Alongside my creative work, I have always had a strong entrepreneurial side. Over the past 14 years, I have started and run businesses within media production, dating, events and health tech. Most of them have begun in the same way: I see a need, an opportunity or an idea that excites me — and I want to find a way to bring it to life.

My curiosity also extends to people. I have studied psychology, have a certificate in Couple Therapy, and am deeply interested in human behavior, relationships, and why we think, feel and act the way we do. Helping people create safer, healthier and more connected relationships is something I care deeply about and hope to devote more of my work to in the future.

And then there are animals. Few things are closer to my heart than animal welfare. I love animals, and spending time with them makes me feel grounded, calm and connected. Over the years, I have been involved in helping and rescuing dogs in different parts of the world, and it is work I continue to be involved in.

To me, it is incomprehensible that we still treat sentient beings as products when animals experience fear, pain, stress, joy, grief and connection just as we do. If I could change one thing in this world, it would be this: that we stop seeing animals as something that exists for us, and instead learn to live alongside them with compassion, respect and wonder.

We share this planet — and every living being deserves both their Life and their Freedom.

I have never been particularly interested in choosing just one path. For me, creativity can take many forms. Whether it is a photograph, a painting, a song, a business idea, helping others or standing up against injustice, what connects it all is the same thing:

I want to create something beautiful — and bring a little more Beauty into the world.

With love Ema
